The NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) is pleased to invite cyber defence experts and enthusiasts around the world to join the first virtual International Conference on Cyber Conflict, CyCon, taking place from May 25th to 28th. Registration and other details are available at cycon2021.org
As a longstanding tradition the opening address of the event is made by the Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid. Other keynote speakers include Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, David van Weel, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges and Dmitri Alperovitch, Chairman of Silverado Policy Accelerator. The four-day event includes keynotes, panel discussions, workshops and more focused discussions on the basis of new research papers carefully chosen to be presented at the event.
The central theme of CyCon 2021 – Going Viral – alludes to the implications of human crises (such as the 2020 pandemic) for cybersecurity and cyberspace. At a more abstract level, it aims to encourage discussions on the impact of fast proliferation and high unpredictability in cyberspace. Whether they concern old threats such as malware or new trends affecting cyberspace such as information campaigns, these phenomena have major real-life implications. We need to acknowledge those, study them and strive to use them for our common benefit.
For more than a decade CyCon has been acclaimed for its high-level academic expertise and for attracting more than 600 decision-makers, opinion-leaders, law and technology experts from the governments, military, academia and industry of nearly 50 countries to meet and address together current cyber security challenges in an interdisciplinary manner. Adapting to the new reality, CyCon will provide a virtual meeting point for the same community this year.
CyCon, the International Conference on Cyber Conflict, is organised annually by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE). Find out more about past events.
