NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (the Centre) and the Cyber Defence Research Centre (CODE) of the Universität der Bunderwehr München signed a cooperation agreement which main aim is to offer the master level students of the university thesis research topics together with a mentor from the Centre thus exchanging knowledge and experience between Centre’s experts and university students.
The master thesis mentoring project concentrates on the technical aspects of cyber defence, offering the students an opportunity to work together with Centre’s Technical Branch experts. “This is our first cooperation agreement of a sort and we are quite excited about it,” noted Raimo Peterson, Branch Chief for the Research and Development Branch. “It is definitely a win-win situation for both sides because we gain the most recent academic knowledge from a highly sophisticated research institute and CODE’s students will benefit from a very skilled mentor whilst working on their thesis, not to mention the experience and contacts made during this period.”
The Research and Development Branch will identify topics within the technical projects of the annual Programme of Work of the Centre and provide suggestions for master thesis tasks to CODE together with expected skills of the candidates. Bundeswehr University will offer these topics to master thesis students and select candidates that match the required profile. The selected students will be mentored by a Centre’s scientist and the student will be working closely with the Research and Development Branch.
NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence is an International Military Organisation located in Tallinn, Estonia. It is not an operational centre and does not fall within the NATO command structure; it is guided and financed by the nations participating in its work. Centre’s mission is to enhance the capability, cooperation and information sharing among NATO, its member nations and partners in cyber defence by virtue of education, research and development, lessons learned and consultation.
