How to Use Inter-Domain Routing in Cyber Conflicts
This talk investigates the potential role of inter-domain routing attacks during cyber conflicts. We will briefly revisit some of the technicalities of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), and then discuss the weaknesses of the protocol and how they can be used in cyber conflicts. We will show potential challenges in attack mitigation and touch on the latest efforts in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to create a securer routing protocol. Finally, we will give some examples of actual events that have been observed by researchers and/or practitioners.
